Careful pre-op planing is a key to the success of the surgery. Other wise - how will your doctor know where and how much to implant. It's tricky - it has to be in the right place and at the right amount, as too much resistance will cause obstruction and too little won't solve the problem enough. Dr Houser places large pieces of cotton wool, soaked in saline, where he is thinking of implanting to create pre-op resistance and simulate the implants he intends to do. It gives him an indication that he has found the right location.
