everyday it is so difficult to live with the effects of the turbinectomy. I have never felt so hopeless in my life. I cannot socialize with people I can barely do my graduate studies. My dreams in life have faded to almost nothing and my boyfrined of 8 years has broken up with me because of my nose and the emotional problms it has caused.
I just want to curl up and die. This sucks.
Having a really hard time.

d0on't let ens beat you,i'm not saying it's as bad as cancer and other problems but the main goal is to not get down and let it win and take oover completly is how i feel..i'm so much better now after dealing with anxiety and the stress of ens that i feel my symptoms have gone down by 15%

I hope you are able to find comfort in that others are dealing with a similar predicament. I'm so sorry to hear about the toll that ENS is taking on you, both personally and professionally. Hopefully with some time and healing you will begin to feel better, or at least overcome some of the emotional aspects of this. And though you are experiencing ENS symptoms, at least there are some things you can do to make your situation better.
It might take that extra effort just to socialize and study, but I'm sure it will be all the worth it if you are able to. Setting realistic goals, even small ones, will help alleviate some of the stress associated with the physical realities of ENS and perhaps take your mind off it for a while. I really hope you have some close people in your life for social support. Know that we are here for you, too.

I feel like I've been hiding under a rock! I just found out that what my dr did to me has a name-ENS (thanks a lot all you damned drs who've been covering each others butts while I suffer!).
To think that the dr who did this tried to blame ME for all of my sinus infections and dryness after the surgery telling me it was because I was diabetic even though my sugars were perfect! I feel like a damned fool!!!
Has anyone had any success with filing suit? My first and most devastating surgery was way back in 1998. Now I'm living in FL at the urging of ENT dr #2. Now I'm on ENT dr #4 at a university hospital (dr #3 moved away--he is the first to suggest that dr #1 fubar(ed) me for life).
Where do I go from here? Did I wait too long? I can't even fight an infection with Cipro now and of course my primary care dr hasn't a clue as to what I'm going through (and once you live in FL you soon realize that most primary care drs are just waiting for you to kick off so the next patient can take your place).
I'm just glad that I found this forum and can't wait to hear if there is anything I haven't tried that might work. I just finished one more course of Cipro with Bactroban nasal ointment and he's got me on a maintenance dose of Doxycycline plus of course all the irrigating and saline sprays.

DOnt know if this may help but i know how humid florida can get.
Some people here have found some allergy relief with natural treatments specifically something called "candida" or "Leaky gut syndrome". Both are controversial but both lead to inflammation issues assoicated with pollen and mold.
Treating for leaky gut actually stopped my throat infections that lead me to surgery in the first place. I still have gut problems however.
Some medical doctors do treat them but you'd do best to research and decide for yourself.
It wont help with the ENS however but if the antibioitcs arent working you may want to check it out.

Before I met Dr. Houser I would wake up everyday depressed and very anxious to live with this another day. It really changed my personality from vivacious and happy to withdrawn and anxious. I also chased away a boyfriend as well. He wasn't strong enough(lol)!!! I can relate to how you feel. However, Dr. Houser has given me new found hope. He is trying to bring the quality of my life back as well as others on the forum. I have had 2 implant surgeries now. At my last appt. with him ,before I had my 2nd surgery, he spent 2 hours with me in the exam room until we got the cotton -*test*-('") right! Also, the fact that now after all these years I finally got a diagnosis makes me feel like there is a solution now + support. So, don't give in to this, you will see better days! Go to the expert if you haven't already. :)

Dr - how much improvement would you say you have received from Dr. Houser? Can you give a sense of how much better you feel?
canada110- 11-14-2007
Soko,
You can always try a saline or restyln injection to see if it brings temp relief I believe Jdog had one so he may be able to explain to you how it works. Remember everyone on this board has a diff opion as for me I'm going with a Saline injection then I will have a Restlyn done a few days after,if the injection works I will get a cymetry injection (small to start)and then build it up from there. Like I said some say they prefer this and some prefer that, this is why the board is so great as so many have there opions/facts and ideas..Remember there is hope and don't get down like I did it only makes it worse

Canada, your case is more of a damaged/crippled nose than straight forward ENS. Your resections are small and are in the posterior, which is far a way from the nasal valve region, which the most important region in causing ENS. You also have an additional condition of scar tissue and recirculating mucus that is probably affecting you just as much if not more so. This I say out of your own reports on your own condition and following your forum correspondance with Dr Houser.
From Soko's discription it's quite clear that she has classical ENS symptoms and frontal turbinate resections. In her case things are much clearer, and the advantage of implants is clearer too.
Regarding yourself - I think your plan to try saline, then followed by restlyn (by the way - I hope you understand that saline injections only last for a few seconds. So it is almost impossible to gauge their effects. From personal experience), is a reasonable plan, but a waste of time, because there is no way that cymetra alone can build back a third of a turbinate, which is what you require. So I believe you'll end up needing Alloderm too. In any case, what ever you do, I believe you should let Dr. Houser do it. Nobody else (ask Anthony).
Good luck.

I got some of my questions answered in this post from the general discussion post. It just seems complicated. The dr. I am seeing here in NEw YOrk is Dr. Slavit, whose name I got on this board. I think I may try a temporary injection from him at the end of January, that may buy me some time, until the year is up and may bring some comfort.
vprice1057- 11-14-2007
Slavit Soko, I think you can feel comfortable with Dr. Slavit. He is very nice and I think he knows about ENS.
