Visit with Dr. Houser I had a very nice visit with Dr. Houser. I am so very thankful to have met him. It's so refreshing to meet a doctor who understands your symptoms. He confirmed my chronic congestion is ENS. I will be getting the Alloderm inplant in February. I woke up this morning feeling excited and relieved that I am finally getting this problem taken care of. Thank you Dr. Houser!

Will you be getting the implant in your turbinates or in another parts of your nose?
Michigan14- 12-06-2007
Yes, both sides. I guess you have to get one and then wait 3-6 months to get the other one.

only if the implants are to the septum. If implanted into the lateral walls - both sides can be done in one procedure. The decision where to implant is based on the results of the cotton -*test*-('").

So can the alloderm be implanted into the turbinates themselves if there is at least 50%?
Or is the alloderm implanted into other parts of the nose?

first question answer is - Yes.
Second - also yes.
Basically what happens is, that based on your responses to the cotton -*test*-('") Dr Houser decides on the best implant locations, and they ca nbe combined by augmenting a partially existing turbinate together with other areas in that nostril to maximize the effect. Both nostrils can be implanted at the same time unless the septum has to be implanted in both nostrils. In the latter case - you cannot traumatize the septum from both sides simultaneously, so that's why each side of the septum has to be done in a defferent procedure.

Surgery I'm sure the inplants will be to the septum since Dr. Houser said he'd only do one side at a time and I was given paperwork on a septoplasty. Half of my middle turbinates are gone. How do people feel after this alloderm in-plant? Are they home for a week after the surgery or do most people feel fine 2-3 days later? Also, I'd be interested in knowing do patients breathe easier right away or does it take a few months for the alloderm to settle in?

for how people feel after the implants, you'll have to research this board thoroughly (use the search option).
Regarding the placement of implants. You will not know nothing for sure until you have the cotton -*test*-('"). Of course, if your MTs are the problem, then it will most likely be septal implants be the MT itself, unlike a partially resected IT, cannot be augmented.
