Health Advocacy - we can get support! Hi everyone,
I am home in VA right now helping my parents, who are retiring. My dad is retiring from a career in teaching Social Work Advocacy and Policy. He wrote a book on the topic and has advised me on how we can work as a group to change policy. Those who started this site have already done so much that he advised - forming a non profit group, connecting to Dr Houser, etc.
He advised that we make specific goals and write them up clearly, then get the official support of health advocacy groups. Our goals are already clear, but we could write them up in a statement to send out to garner support. Goals like having the Academy of Medicine officially recognize ENS as a real medical condition; like requesting that doctors change their protocol - before and in surgery - getting patient history about past turbinate work, giving patients information about ENS. And of course doctor education - in med school and in continuing ed like conferences.
Once we have the official support of established and well reputed groups, we can pressure and petition the Academy of Medicine. It will also look better for as we try to get publicity from media, to be affiliated with such groups. We have to find these groups and contact them, and that is something I would like to work on.
I'll be back in NY tonight. Let me know what you think.

Even For-Profit Medical Companies and Drug Companies might be interested in supporting us.
There are also lots of state and local groups for public health and advocacy. It seems like lots of these groups do studies and compile statistics to boost their arguments. Maybe we need to get a real study funded if there is not one already... There is Dr Houser's article and other research by Dr Kern, etc -- is that enough scientific proof for us to go on? I hope so. I'd rather not waste time gathering statistics, but I guess studies can only help.
Anyway, maybe we could get our story into the newsletters of these agencies and companies. And find a way to present our group's message to the Academy of Medicine and other official medical groups that are unaware of unbelieving of ENS.
Tell me what you think.
