Raises many questions, and my personal feeling reading this is that scientists are still a long way away from understanding how to induce that needed electric signal, and if indeed that is all that is needed...
Also, I find myself wondering if the age of injury has an effect on the organ's ability to regenerate even if the mechanism is found. It's a known fact that younger humans regenerate better than older, but does the time that passes between injury and stimulating the resected tissue with the proper currents/bio-chemical materials, matter too?
My belief is that it does, though it's hard to say to what extent.
Still, very interesting article that gives some glimpse of hope, although I don't think that we'll see any clinical applications of this research any time in the near future.
