keeping nose moist
Dr. Houser, It has been 4 months now since my turbunate reduction. The left side seems to be healing fine. However, my right side is still dry and burning. What can help keep my nose moist? I heard that saline is not good to use regularly because it can be more drying. I have not put anything in my nose for awhile because I have just been trying to let it heal. However, there are some days when it is just too dry. Is it okay to put vaseline or A and D ointment in my nose? Also, should I be using a cool mist or warm mist humidifier? What is the difference? Thanks, Lisa

cool mist if theer are little kids that might open a warm mist and get burned, otherwise a warm mist is better saline can be mixed as hyper - iso - hypo tonic. Hypotonic will not dry you out, isotonic should not either. You can put lipid based ointments (vaseline, ponaris, etc) in once there is no acute healing that needs to occur. Otherwise you risk myosperulosis. I think water based are good - Grossan product or Neil med. To be honest, I would read through this site for patients' recommendations.
