Large Septum Side Implant Hi Dr Houser,
I am a little over 2 months out from implant surgery with you. I am doing better, esp. considering the humid and warm weather. As I've told everyone, my nose feels less constantly raw and dry and there is less thick mucus. There is still thick mucus, but there is just less and it is moister, and I can swallow it back more easily.
Still, on the septum side, sometimes my implant feels like it is blocking the airway to a degree. Coupled with thick mucus sometimes, it really feels congesting. I don't know if this is just seasonal, due to the humidity. I found out I am really not allergic to much, but I guess I just have always had vasomotor rhinitis (?) and sensitivity, according to the allergist I saw. I've gone off allergy medicines (Xyzal, Flonase, even Rhinocort AQ) and I am trying just to get by on irrigation.
The weirdest thing is that I still must use Breathe Right strips to sleep. Otherwise I end up mouth breathing (and snoring sometimes) during the night and usually wake up with a very dry mouth and/or by gasping for air suddenly. I don't understand this at all! It's as if my nose prefers to be wide open and dry rather than narrower, moister, and maybe somewhat blocked by the implants? I don't know if my nose gets dryer with more thick mucus with or without the Breathe Right strips at night.
Would reducing the septum side implant be wise? It kind of sticks to the side of my nose sometimes, but I have an airway around it pretty much. At night I feel to blocked to not use Breathe Right Strips.
When should I come to see you next? I do want to look into this...
Thank you!!
Erika
