Mednet and other academic papers I think it is very easy to locate those paper who support the overzealous removal of the IT or MT. you only need to type total inferior turbinectomy, you can find a list.
However, most of us can find that those paper are old papers, one from Africa, one from Israel, one from America,
The only new one is from Israel, which support the total removal of IT of children.
First of all, thos area, like Africa and israel are similar climate, no noticeable vicissitude of weather change, so the patient will not feel the change of humidity and the lung and sinus will feel the difference. For example, if it rains, or it drys for a while, we can feel the lung hurts during the beginning of the change.
Second, bilateral removal, so the patient have no chance to notice the difference to have the IT or not. In my case, my left IT still has a little left, then I can feel the difference. After the left ITs gone, then it seems the same.
Third, I want to find the contact method to cotnact those old researcher who support the removal of the IT and MT.
The air flow theory has not yet been published until recent several years. On this webstie, there is even picture can prove the existence of the air flow theory. So, it is so real that IT and MT cannot be removed. Because it can affect the sense of smell and taste. And, the reflex feeling of the existence of the sinus during breathing.
I think we shall divide us into several groups to contact those bad ENT, to let them know that the paper they published is really ignorant. Not only do we need to demand them to remove the paper, but also the apology.
I am very serious. They must be made known what they have done to the world. Let them conscience realize the mistake they make.
And, those paper must be removed.
In the legal society, the new precednet always prevail over the old and obsolete one. WHy in medical society, they can enjoy the priviglege, so later use those papers as execused in court.
Today, we all know, the ENS is physcial issue caused by ENTS. We all know it. But , if you go to the best hospital, like UCLA or standford, in the clinic, the ENT will tell you, it's ok, some patients do pretty well with no ITs at all.
Then, I talked to the ENT after the clinic visit, on the street, then he said, he knows what I have is a real physical issue, but I don't want to be involed with a lawsuit. In the medical soceity in US, if the dr help sue others, they will be on the black list, unless the mistake is really clear and no controversy at all.
So, you know my point, we must remove those paper who support removal of ITs; We have all the latest evidence to support us. Not just subjective pain.
If possible, those paper publised shall REALLY pay for what they have done. Not only will they be burn in hell, but now too. I just have a feelign that they are sons of Cain, the evil gene is in their body, because they are hybrid, half angel, half man, so the possess supreme intelligence. They beceom doctors or other important leaders, and secretly hurting the world and avoid the news exposure.
Trust me, I know some people without ITs, one girl, she went to have rhinoplasty, later the doc remove all ITs, of course, she can not smell and taste, but the ent told her, your sense of smell is not good even before the surgery, because the dr has such high social status, she BELIEVE him,. And, later she developed digestion issue and circulation issue, but she told me she did not believe it has anything to do with the surgery,.
It's a true story, maybe she is really wise because the surgery is already done, too late to regret. If she let my words into her mind, she will start to hate, to regret, then become more miserable.
And, those kids in ISrael, of course, they will believe what the doc told their mom.
Those things cannot be seen are actually the most imprtant. (excerpt from litte prince)
We don't see ITs, we dont see the sense of smell and taste, we don't ever see the relfex feelig between the IT and the air we breath in, then it is so easy to be avoided for the legal remedy.

You have some good points.... and some 'interesting' comments.
I think one other thing worth mentioning is the financial implications, not just legal implications, of admitting that such procedures are dangerous.
Turbinectomies are part of the bread and butter for ENTs. They are as common now as tonsilectomies were in the 70's and 80's. Tonsils are now well known to be needed and provide vital functions. It seems every so often the ENTs have a new fad to bring in the bacon. Dont get me wrong, where its warranted in severe cases fine, but its when its become routine to do for other motivations (and routine to sell it as routine and deny some of the issues such as ENS) that the ethics of the medical profession once again let us all down.

follow up Since you mention the tonsil. How about adenoid?
Many patient after the removal of adnod, feel the change of the sense of smell. The duration of the sense of smell, for exmaple, when you in a room, you smell something different, before the surgey, it can last like miuntes, after surgery, it lasts only second.
That's only one of it. The adeoind, as u can see in the picture in this website. Can let the mucous cover it and attach the particles from food and air, or even pollutants. ( see the paper by Edmond Pritbkin)
That's why on this board, some people can stil taste food without and ITs left, it is because the adenoid allow the mucous to attach. As for those who don't have adenoid either, no taste of food, unless after each bite, I try to breath deep and shallow to allow the air flow, the turbilence to reach the top of sinus. And. no one want to even tissue enginneered adenoids now.
ANd, as for those papers on removing all ITs/ My personal exp is that the ENT who did this to me is old, in the past, he removed only 50 %, as for some patients before me(did the surgery one month beofre me), complianing feel choking in the sinus. THen, the stupid doc who did not update the latest info, remove all the ITs to the next patient. and let the residence learn the REASON why.
So, if you read the paper from africa and Ameirca, the researcherd said they tried SEVERAL ways to remove different portion of IT, but the patient SILL NOT SATIFIED. So they recommend total removal.
Until recent 6 years, the ENT start to realize that the nerve in the IT can cause the sensation of the airflow. It just like your skin can sense the airflow, but the IT is more sensitive. ANd, without it, of course we feel choking. SO, those 3 to 4 papers who recommend total removal can be the evidence to prove that HOW IGNORANT the reseachers are. ANd, how dare they to publish it without throughly thinking abou it. ANd, they even use their paitent as experiment first.
Also, if the ENT removal only a little of ITs, it will bleed a lot. And, the ENT later has to cauterize it again. Not only annoying, but embarrassing ENTs too becuase the nurse might think he is lousy. SO, some ENT likes to remove the whol sub IT or even the whole IT.
ANd, in my case, before the sugery, I did research, I want to talk to the ENT, he did not even show up. ANd, I was just put to sleep.
Come on, give me a break, last week, On the MSN website, ten most useless organ, sinus is one of them. It;s so ridiculous.

I agree, it seems that the ENT field is still learning, and as they develop new techniques, they are still learning these techniques. What is unethical and inhumane is that they are learning as they go, and there seems to be an acceptance of collateral damage. Its ok to have the odd cock up, as they do so much good and provide a necessary service etc. Its like saying its ok to kill 1 person to save 10, especially when you are not the 1. You have no right to make such a decision on behalf of that 1 unless you want to nominate yourself to be the 1. Just like you have no right to do such operations on someone when there is ample evidence to support the fact that a very bad outcome might occur. Would these ENTs do such things to their own child?
Anyway we have 23 organs, so to rank the top 10 as useless is just ludicrous. Ask the author of that piece if he/she would like to do without their sinuses or any of the others listed.
Also, I was told by one ENT, that they dont even know all the reasons why the turbinates swell.
I also think its a shame that they want to selectively learn things (for whatever motivational reasons). A case in point is Dr H's course being rejected.
