My appointment with Dr. F
Dr. Houser, I saw Dr. F Monday. He was very precise and took a lot of time listening to me and examing my nose. Unfortunately, the outcome was the same as what the other doctors said. He said my nose is normal, that I don't have ENS, and he would not put any kind of alloderm, implant, ect up my nose. I practically begged him to do some kind of implant on my left nostril, but he said he would not do that. All I can figure out is that the left side of my nose is where my deviated septum was and now it feels empty because it's gone. He said I had Min-Fess performed on me, and that i shouldn't be having any problems. I just know that the left side of my nose drives me crazy. Feels empty and way to much airflow. My nose functioned normally before surgery, and now I just feel like some sort of freak. I would gladly take the congestion and upper respiratory infections I had on a regular basis over this. At least my nose felt full and normal. I slept good, had good concentration, and functioned as a normal person. Now I can't sleep well, can't concentrate like i used to , my nose stays dry all the time and just gets little crusts. I just don't feel right and can't seem to handle stress like i used to. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. I just feel like I'm in a hopeless situation. My parents and friends think I'm crazy since all these doctors keep telling me I'm fine. Why would removing the uncinate process and just straightening my septum make my nose feel so much different? My turbs weren't touched. I just don't understand why my nose feels so abnormal. I also don't understand why my voice is not as loud as it used to be. It's a normal volume, but just not as loud as it was with the deviated septum. How this surgery has effected my singing is another concern. While my voice is clearer now , it doesn't seem to have as much power as it used to especially on my low end notes. My voice used to be so loud that I actually had a guy in the gym complain about my voice being so loud. Can you give me any explanations or ideas as to why I've felt so much change with a minimal fess surgery without turbinate reduction. I've seen 5 doctors now and none of them seem to have a answer. Dr. F was aware of ENS , but just declared I didn't have it after examining my nose on video and looking at my CT scans. I'm very down now as I really thought Dr. F was going to have a solution. As I've said before basically shooting saline gel up my nostril makes it feel more full and normal. Takes about 3 times shots of gel to get my nose feeling this way. I'm so frustrated with Dr. F because I told him this and he still refused to implant anything permanent. I personally feel that bulking up the septum on the left side a little would solve the problem. Thank you, Gary

The surgery you had should not have caused ENS as we currently understand it. A question is then, do you really know what was done? Also, do we fully understand the origins of ENS? (No, is the answer there) You need a cotton test to decide whether you would benefit from an implant or not.
