researching/ funding ideas Maybe we should consider having a section for funding/ fundraising grants for research.
Does anyone on the forum have any grant writing expierence or fundraising ideas?
Does anyone know how much a good grant writer will cost. Perhaps raising a small amount of money to pay for one could lead to a larger amount.
Although i know how te feels on the issue I would like to see how others think....get a dialogue working, maybe brainstorm an idea.
Just putting the question out there to see what others think.

Although i know how te feels on the issue
There you go again...
Why can't you simply get off my back?.....
A first post on a new thread and you already have something to say about me.
Perhaps you fancy me?.... I am flattered of-course, but I guess it's just fair to warn you that I am not attracted to my own sex.
Besides, you have no idea of my opinions on fundraising for grants. I totally support that.
jdog- 01-04-2008
You made a very clear comment in the last thread that you felt this way about raising funds ....
jdog,
if the situation is as you say it is, and Acell is approved and safe for human usage - why don't you try to get them interested in performing a clinical trial on resected turbinates in ENS patients?
Before you tell me again in a very sure manner that they will want the patients themselves to fund such a trial, let me tell you that that is unheard of. Companies like Acell have a genuine interest to conduct such trials and no-one expects the patients to fund them.
OF and beyond the inferred subtext it is a very clear respectable position you make that we should not be involved with funding and should focus on puersuation of certain people an companies.
I understand this and wanted to know what others thought.
I fail to see how asking others their opinions as well is devalidating you TE.

Jdog i'm with you but i dont know where to start on trying to get this done..I mean I would consider being the test subject what could it hurt...It's nice to know that your still out there bro working hard for us Jdog means a lot

You can't stop can you j-DOG: You sink your teeth in like a blood thirsty hound, that simply won't let go till it draws blood...
Right?!!!
You're really spoiling for a fight, aren't you? - OK, you'll get what you want:
You can try to twist my words and lie from here till hell freezes over. But, everyone with eyes in their head can see through your pathetic wiggles and slimy lies.
See if you can find one place were I say that I oppose to publishing a written grant for reconstructing resected turbinates and raising money for it?
Just tell me please, oh yes - and I'm sure everyone else here will want to know too: What will the grant be for? - will it be for reconstructing resected turbinates, or perhaps for closing an over enlarged sinus ostium (like the one in your own, not very empty, nose)???
jdog- 01-04-2008
For someone who suddenly claims to want this discussion to take place you sure are ruining this thread.
Please let the discussion take place TE. I think that is what everyone would like to happen. Maybe nothing will come of it but maybe something could.
TE- 01-04-2008
Why don't you let it take place, by simply not taunting me every three sentences.
Glad to see that perhaps you decided to stop doing so in the new thread you started. Lets see if you can stick to it, or if you still have a taste for blood.

mmmmmmmmmmm...........bloooood!

Well back to teh topic at hand. I went to the Acell website today and looked around a littlebit. It looks somewhat promising, it coudl be far into the future I don't really know.
Anyhow, i thought that Acell would be happy to fund trials if there was a qualified doctor to experiment on patients. Thinking if the people at Acell would like to test the regenerative possibilities of Acell on resected turbinates (if it is a possibility) then they would be happy to donate the stuff and pay for surgical costs to a qualified doctor to see what happens.
Perhaps it is jsut a matter of convincing them that this is something to experiment on and then finding a surgeon interested enough in regenerative medicine and knowledgeable enough about the nose.
TE-You helped Dr.Houser with alot of his research? Is this something he would be interested in doing?
TE- 01-07-2008
I think he would if he believes that Acell can really grow a resected turbinate to a decent and adequate size.
I personally doubt that Acell can do that. It doesn't mean that I think it's not worth a try. I'm pretty sure that Dr Houser feels the same way - meaning doesn't expect much from it, but will not refuse to try it if asked.
I think that he will agree to try it in any patient that signs the proper waiver, but you should really be asking him about that.

soko does bring up a good point. It not uncommon for a product to be used off label for years before a true clinical trial to take place.
I guess it can beg the question, "Has acell been used in a off label procedure where the application method may apply to our situation?" or an equivalant product. I believe i read somewhere that SIS has been used in patients since the early 90's and acell has maybe a 5 year track record in patients but im not sure if there is an accesable database with all the usages.
I think the key question with acell is application since i dont see the product doing any harm, its more a question of an effective test.
If i remember correctly Houser has not offically commented good or bad on acell's potential effectiveness since he does not know of an effective way to apply it. TE you may know more on that since you have had more communication with him in reference.
When i spoke to acell many months ago I was not informed enought to ask that specific question. I did ask about application which they couldn't comment but i didn't ask about previous applications as such.
Has any of the other members spoken to them on this particular issue?
