Septoplasty Hello Dr Houser,
I had a septoplasty done along with submucosal resection of the turbinates, polyp removal and opening of the ethmoid sinus on the left. I have a weird feeling that the septoplasty has slightly changed the look of my nose. I am also beginning to question whether or not I needed a septoplasty and if the doctor was lying about that. Most of my CT scan does not show a deviated septum. Can I fax you the CT scan, so that you can give me your opinion on whether or not is was really deviated?

you can mail a CD ROM for ENS assessment.
I canot get involved with ENS legal cases.

If the septum was really deviated wouldn't have shown up on all of the scans? I have not taken a post-op CT scan yet.

CTs can undercall a septal deviation that is more visible on physical exam.

Some of the shots show a deviated septum while others don't. The deviated septum was not visible on the outside of my nose at all. He said you can't always see it on the outside. Either way the deviation was not significant enough, because I had no symptoms from it. The cause of my congestion was enlarged turbinates, because the breathing cycle worked as usual. When the deviated septum is the cause of nasal obstruction the breathing is always blocked on the one side that the septum is deviated to, correct?
I think the only time a deviated septum should be "fixed" is when the patient can remember having physical trauma dramatically alter his or her breathing. It should also only be done when the symptoms indicate that it is the cause and other causes (inferior polyp or enlarged turbinates) have been ruled. Do you agree with my opinion?
