SLEEP Problems - Poll Hi Everyone,
I would be interested to see what other's reasons are for lack of sleep due to ENS. Myself I have diffiiculty because of dryness and thick mucous.
Please enter your reason(s) what keeps you from sleeping :?:

Sleep problem Same here, dryness and thick mucous.
Lerxst- 01-14-2007
Dryness in the back, towards my throat is one cause. If I start to sleep in the wrong position, I can feel this area close up and almost "stick" to itself. I then get jolted awake and stay awake for at least another hour while my body tries to re-relax.
Excessive and thick mucous also doesn't help in this area and just adds to that problem.

ENS Allergies and Lung Spasms? Hey all ... 15 Jan 2007
Seems like a common problem then with thick mucous and dryness! I also have allergies (Chrionic Rhinitis) which really complicates everythings badly - infection escalates rapidly - etc. Albuterol is needed to relax my lungs - etc.
I am angry and am going to see a disabilty attorney in case I cannot go back to work in 12 weeks. My bilateral turbinectomy, polypectomy and septum repair was just 5-1/2 weeks ago on December 5. This is scaring me and I was told by Dr Houser to give it more time to conclude ENS up to one year. If I heal well enough I will definitely not abandon this webiste and "fight the fight" for our suffering and making turbinectomy obseolete in my book! :!: :x
Thanks for your time and posts...
John

Sleep Poll I haven't been sleeping well, but I'm not sure if it's related to ENS or not. I have difficulty falling asleep, which doesn't seem to have any physical problems related to that. Worse is that I always wake up early, usually around 4:00 am.
Does anyone else have this problem? My symptoms didn't show up until about a year or so after my surgery.

It sounds like depression. It may or may not be related to your symptoms. But, you should be aware that ENS comes with an alarmingly high chance of clinical depression, so if you do have ENS (and I nelieve that you do if indeed your ITs were removed) than you are most likely very troubled and depressed. Psychiatric counseling may be helpful. As for ENS symptoms - although you say you are not dry, suggest you try performing regular daily irrigations for a while. You may find that helpful too.

Depression Actually, I met with a sleep specialist yesterday and he put me on a mild anti-depressant, so we'll see if that helps.
I do use a saline rinse somewhat regularly, but I don't think this is the same as the irrigation you mention. At any rate, I'm at least fortunate that I live in Cleveland, and I have been to see Dr. Houser. But I didn't have this pain and discomfort when I met with him, so I'm sure I'll be making a return trip someday. Like everyone else, I'm finding this difficult to deal with.

Yup, thick mucus and dryness - when one nostril blocks, I have to go try to clear it. Of course it never comes out the front, so I have to try to suck it back (rarely works alone), then re-rinse, use Ponaris, steam, Flonase, hang upside down, poke with q tip, pray to nose gods, etc.
I am trying to figure out the right order or what to do before bed, what time, etc. It is like pure alchemy, even after five years.

), then re-rinse, use Ponaris, steam, Flonase, hang upside down, poke with q tip, pray to nose gods, etc.
,chew some hot pepper seeds, drink some cayenne pepper tea, squirt a couple packs of Taco Bell Hot Sauce into the mouth, spread Flexall or Bengay around the outside of the nose, stretch, twist, and press in repeatedly just under the ribcage, firmly pat the rigcage, press a finger to the side of the nose (at the cartilage-to-bone connection) to instigate a sneeze.. -Exactly. -Just a few of the remedies I use in attempts to get cleared.
Also try folding the hands over the nose in a praying position.. This acts as an extension of the nose - as you exhale, moisture from your breath is deposited on the hands and outside of the nose and face, then on inhaling that moisture is exaporated off and goes back inside the nose to aid in moisturizing. Breathe like this long enough and the thick mucous starts to loosen up.

I barely sleep, my isn't so much as thick muscous, cause I barely produce that, it's the dryness. I seem to get so congested when I lay down, unlike when I'm upright.
I don't know about anyone else here, but I seem to wake up several times at night and have to go to the washroom when I'm aware that I'm awake. Though, I've been told that I have a restless sleep, which I would struggle, wimper, and calm down, and the cycle happens all over again. I have mild sleep apnea, but I wasn't like this until after my second surgery, and worst after my third.

Sleep Problems Seroquel has helped me the most. Ask your doctor if you can try that. 25 or 50 mg dosages are plenty for me, but it can vary some for people.

Sleeping Hello everyone I have not been on the board for quite some time. It's depressing for me so I stay away but decided to check it today. My sleeping is the worse ever. I didn't have problems quite as bad when I was working, but I lost my job, have been unemployed for almost 6 months, am about to lose my apartment, don't really know where I am going to be living (family kind of estranged), wouldn't go live with most of them if they wanted me. I noticed when I was working during the day, my problem was not quite as bad because I had things on my mind to keep my mind off of the ENS. Now with no work, all day long, all night long, it is just horrible. If I wake up, which I do at least 3 times a night (usually the last time I cannot get back to sleep), I have to suck back phlegm for at least an hour before I fall asleep again. You guys don't know what depression is until you go through what I am going through. I am looking for a room to share with someone. When my unemployment ends, I guess I will be in a shelter; can't tell you how many interviews I have been on. It is bad, bad, bad. I have certain medicines that I need and cannot get, when I do I am skipping days because I have no coverage now. I never thought I would see days as bad as this. Anyway, I'm trying to hang in there but I am starting to throw out things that I don't want or need because I intend to stay where I am until I am evicted and whatever is left can just stay here.
