Suffering After Image Guided FESS Surgery Two Months Ago Dr Houser,
Just had surgery for inferior turbinate hypertrophy ~ 3 mos ago and now find myself with an incredibly dry nose constantly. Have been back to the ENT who performed the surgery several times now with the same issue, constant dry nose - hurts to breathe in thru nose - and voice is extremely nasal sounding at times.
Hard to believe that even with image guided FESS surgery I wound up with this problem! The ENT's advice is to wait it out, everything looks fine. My understanding is that the nose should have healed by now and be functioning properly.
Do you know any ENTs in New York City that specialize in ENS. I'd like to get a 2cd opinion from someone the really understands this condition.
Many Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,
I don't think Dr. Houser would mind me jumping in on this one. There are no ENTs in NYC who specialize in treating ENS. However, you might want to try Dr. Tichenor, who is a sinusitis specialist and has treated many with ENS (www.sinuses.com).

FESS Surgery / Radio-frequency ablation CM,
Thanks for the reply.
After speaking with the ENT surgeon, I found out he did not trim any turbinate material. He performed radio-frequency ablation for the for the middle turbiantes. He also removed diseased tissue in the maxillary, ethmoidal, and frontal sinuses.
Is it possible to get ENS even if no turbinate material is removed?
Any help guidance appreciated. i welcome a reposnse from Dr Houser as well.
Thanks.

as we define ENS some turbinate surgery needs to take place
Rf is conservative, but even a conservative procedure can be aggressive if applied for too long
