Swelling turbs Hello Dr Houser, nice to talk to you... sorry this will be lengthy but heres my story..... in aug of 06 i had my adenoids taken out very bad surgery woke up with horrific head pain in the back of my head also ( note the head pain went on for 3 weeks) very bad infection after the surgery also to rewind i had staph infection on my adenoids. then after surgery still had a lot of infection wasnt healing in oct of 06 had granulated tissue cut of my nose and then about 2 weeks later end of oct of 06 my left inferior turb was swelling nothing was done about it so i went to a different doc and was very reluctant to the septoplasty and turboplasty so i still tried several things for a year and a half so i did it in jan of 08 had that surgery . really my main problem is turbs are still swelling and now lately the right turb is swelling also was always my left before but the left still bothers me also. but a couple concerns in july of 07 had a culture -*test*-('") done again and came back staph was put on levaquin but my turbs were still swelling. and now i still get some, not a lot of yellow stuff right there were my turbs are swelling. I truelly believe that i still have staph somewhere in my nose and that is what is causing my turbs to swell. i have had an allergy -*test*-('") done and it was negative on the skin prick part but when they drew blood had to have the -*test*-('") done twice because it was not a good positive. so i think it is a weak positive to mold, dust mites.also note i (don't)have runny nose or a lot of sneezing or watery eyes i have used the ultra colldial silver spray but doesnt seem to be strong enough to get rid of this what i think is still staph. so a couple questions: do you think manuka honey can help for staph? Can staph cause the turbs to swell? is there something out there about injecting the turbs with cortizone is that safe even if only works for a few weeks or months i would be grateful. also can you stay on zyrtec -d indefinitely to reduce swelling? i dont have a scanner to send any scans. do you know of any medicines that can help with staph? thank you for your time. opal.

Opal,
Not an ENS issue, but I am happy to see you in clinic to examine you and discuss things further.
Perhaps you need a culture to decide upon the presence or absence of Staph aureus.
Honey for allergy has been debunked; I am not aware of any benefit in infections.
Zyrtec-d is OK unless hypertension and insomnia are issues.

Dr.Houser thank you for your responses Can you inject cortizone in the turbs to keep them from swelling? I know this is going to sound negative, but right now my turbs are still causing my biggest problem but i think i will have problems with ENS because a few other things are also present like when i am having a good day i can feel cold air in the back of my throat and when i am trying to go to sleep i feel like i am not getting enough air in my lungs. also have blocked mucous in and around my turbs. i have actual pictures of my turbinates From what i can tell my IT's not too bad but the doc told me half of my MT's were cut but looking at the pictures looks like more than half to me. OF course i would like to make an appointment and hopefully get to the bottom of swelling turbs have been dealing with this since oct06 also do you think the bad staph infection i had or may still have has anything to do with the swelling turbs. well thanks again for your time. also seems hot and high humidity seem to make my turbs worse. i am not too far away so i will be calling soon to make an appointment. Thank You. opal.

yes, intra-turbinal steroid injection is possible
think of it as a souped up nasal steroid spray
there is a risk (exceedingly remote) or blindness with steroid injection
