The bubble form of one of my MT
Dear Dr. Houser Sorry to bother you. Both my ITs were gone during a septoplasty surgery. After that, one of my MT is much larger than the other, with a bubble inside. Because of it's side and it bends toward the septum, instead of maxiliary sinus. I can rely on it for sense of smell, air flow, feeling of rain and taste. However, last year, it shrunk. At first, I thougth I can get used to it again. But, it is not easy. Really really painful. I feel there must be some liquid. If I spray it to my MT, it can cause it to enlarge again. I only need one MT to be bigger. I even think about Botox. However, it might make the whole MT die or even if it swells, but permanent loss of senses. Or inject the air or alloderm into it? Currently, I am trying spray some milk to it, then use toilet tissue to block the nostril. However, I believe there must be some natural stuff I can use to swell it. Since it swoll before, it is possilbe it can swell again. OF course, in the past, it is very humid in my sinus. Now, it's now because of lost of two ITs. If you make a wild guess, can you give any advice? I know you are not sure either. Please just guess. THANKS

If you mean you have a concha bullosa, then it should not shrink alone. It cannot be inflated with air. A MT cannot be expanded with injection. Unfortunately MTs are too small/slight to operate upon.

Dr H, Are you therefore saying that Alloderm cannot be grafted onto the MTs? is it only able to be done with ITs?

Dr.Houser, I was told right before surgery that i had concha bullosa in the middle turbs. Is the only way to fix that is cutting the middle turbs because that what was done to me about 50% or more of mine. Anyone else reading this ,were they told that they had concha bullosa i dont see too many people on here that mention if they had that just curious? thanks opal.

The lateral 1/2 of the MT is typically removed to shape the MT into a normal size. Sharp instruments should preserve long term nerve function, and the aerodynamics should be improved as well
