To decrease nasal air flow Dr. Houser what is your opinion on this..
Since for some the pain problem is the increases airflow through the nose, causing too much airflow ..thus dryness and suffocation, what about sewing only slightly the edge of the nostril skin with in a precise area that will help with the airflow. I know that this may not help with the dryness or the really severe cases of people who have no filter system at all, but for those who feel suffocated with the over flowing of air, or the really hollow no resistence feeling, this may be an option for those where IT resection has created a resistence problem. I know myself that if I press the edge of the nostril I feel relief from the sensation with the added resistence and can actually feel better! Sometimes this is the only way I can fall asleep. Essentially making the opening of the nose only slightly smaller and thus feeling less air. I am not sure if this will help keep moisture in the nose, but I assume it is better. It off course cant solve the nerve damage or other severe problems but can make one more functional in some cases as we all have varying symptoms. I am sure many others feel at least some relief when they attempt to plug a the nostril in certain spots.
What do you think? It is also possible that this is reversible because it can be opened up if needed with more surgery if the resistence proves to be too much or if conditions improve. It may not be ideal and solve all problems but could help alot and is much simpler than the implant option. Plus you can just work with the skin and not so much the membrane.
I would like to hear what others feel about this?

Your suggestion sounds like a partial young's procedure (look this term up in Chris's book). I don't think the stitches would be able to withstand the pressures in the nasal valve and vestibules, so it doesn't sound feasible to me. also note that much of the nasal airflow receptors are located in the vestibule, which is where you want to sow. This might further reduce airflow sensation, even if it does succeed in limiting the volume of airflow.

make sense to me in a way, they can increase the size of the nasal cavity and make more air come up there, how come there isn't a way to decrease the space or amout of air that would make things better no?just something to put out there..i mean have any of you tried taping your nose shut or soemthing like that?does it help the symptoms?

Canada,
That's precisely what the implants do. But butterfly is talking about the vestibule region, which is not really the inner nose.
