Why does it always have to be a "syndrome"?
I am getting so tired of always being diagnosed with a "syndrome". Restless leg syndrome which has no real help atleast that I have found and now today hearing the words "empty nose syndrome". Now that I have a name for why I feel lousy all the time, what to do about it? The doc gave me a nasal rinse to use and offered no other help! Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated. By the way, my cheilf complaint is constant ear pain and decreased hearing in my right ear. Thanks in advance for your help, Shari

THis may not apply but i read this the other day. http://www.fightingfatigue.org/?cat=16 A study from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., looked at the connection between Restless Legs Syndrome and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) occurs in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and fibromyalgia; RLS is also common in people with FM. In this study, IBS patients with abnormal lactulose breath tests—indicating the presence of SIBO—received a series of treatments including rifaximin, tegaserod, and zinc. Ten of the 13 patients showed at least 80 percent improvement in their Restless Legs Syndrome, and global gastrointestinal symptom improvement ranged from mild to great. Researchers believe these results suggest that SIBO may be a factor in some RLS patients, and that SIBO therapy may improve Restless Legs Syndrome long-term. GERD medication is the #1 cause of SIBO with antibiotics and steroids being second. Also have you had a hearing test.

shari, Read this forum and the articles. I do not think ear pain and decreased hearing are even mentioned among the symptoms. Did the doctor say why he thinks you have ENS?

That was also one of a few chief complaints way before the surgery, turned out for me it wasnt my sinus but "myofacial pain". The muslces in the neck and jaw, you may want to also look for tmj and try a night guard. your dentist or local pain clinic can help with that if you are interested. Also a good physical thearpist can tell you if that is it. Ask your pcp for a script for soma. Also that is not ENS.
