Why? The surgeon stripped out all of my mucous membranes. I can't realistically look forward to getting better. I'm going to try to plan on a miracle, but right now, this reality keeps hitting me in the face. I just learned it a few days ago.
My nose deforms more daily. If I get well enough, I will have plastic surgery.
I am too tired and sick even to read today. I am just waiting for the day to be over, hoping tomorrow will be better.
I had never had a sinus symptom. My GP, in order to help me be better understood by doctors, went through my five+ year history, verified not one sinus complaint in all that time, and wrote a letter to that effect.
I just can't understand why--why did he do this? My answer until now was--for money--but why did he do SO MUCH damage?

Because there not interested in truth. They studied so hard got into medical school studied insanely then they went to specialize and studied even more. This is what they were taught to do, this is how they make a living. Some people are helped with the surgery at least immediately after, the rest they are not interested in fiding out what they did. They minimize what they did to us, they are willing to take the risks on other patients because they are not interested in truth. We have to suffer like this. How many people have committed suicide because of this. They didnt even name this problem until 1994, surgeons touch turbinates wrecklessly. If you go to your surgeon now what will he say oh you feel like there is to much air going in your nose. Its all in your head. You need a psychiatrist. They dont care about truth so it doesnt matter how intelligent they are they wont find it. They will keep repeating there mistakes and people like us are collateral damage. I've had "conservative" surgery. Conservative to what turbinectomy laser therapy give me a break. The surgeon doesnt care what he did to me, he is willing to take the risk. They have destroyed lives and are not interested in it. Some ENTs dont even believe empty nose syndrome exists.

Well, they surely all believe that having no mucous membranes in your nose and sinuses is bad. I will eventually have no cilia at all unless a miracle happens for me.
It just doesn't seem possible that the guy was THAT stupid. If I'd had any idea what he was doing, I"D have known better, and I didn't go to medical school.
I'm so sad for all of us. This has to stop.

If the individual doesnt want to understand you cant force them. If you have no mucous in your nose they can tell themselves they never caused it or they wont even listen to you that you have no mucous in your nose. Stupid is not the same as foolishness. An individual can have intelligence that is have a high IQ and be able to finish med school. They also can be foolish if they dont want to understand. Someone can have a low IQ and not be intelligent but they can be wise if they love truth.

That's true, B. Love of truth always leads to good. Its opposite always leads to bad. It is hard to grasp what a monumental blindess there is in this profession that we so revere--medicine.

Kris,
I feel so bad for you. Did you ever go see Dr. Houser? As horrible as you feel, you need to come up with a plan of action to start feeling better. There must be something that can be done to improve your situation.
kris- 03-02-2008
Thanks for your concern, Michigan.
There is not really anything that can be done. At this point, mucosa cannot be regenerated. The technology does not exist.
I haven’t gone to Dr. Houser yet because I wasn’t sure what my problem was. The turbinates did not appear that bad once I got a scan—last month. I just got this information two days ago. I haven’t had time to form a plan of action.

Hi kris
Make an appointment with Dr. Houser. If you are a candidate for implants they may help reduce the degeneration. Anthony has said his implants helped with the quality of his mucous, they will keep moisture in. Also i dont know if you use this but try using manuka 15+ with organic sesame seed oil it is so moisturizing and it last so long. 12 hours you can do it twice a day. Plus it has antimicrobrial properties make sure you use the grossans irrigator it will reduce the rate of degeneration. Sorry you have to suffer like that. Also sorry if you already do these things.

B,
I do the honey and sesame seed oil many times a day. Is there some reason I shouldn't?
I am only a little over 4 months post op so Dr. Houser would not be able to do an implant for quite a while, and I am scheduled to see a plastic surgeon about reconstruction of my nose in April. But I won't be well enough to have the surgery for a while, probably.
I want to see Dr. Houser, eventually.
I don't do the Grossans irrigator. I use a Neil MED a lavage bottle. I have spent a fortune in money I don't have. And I am turned off by the idea of a machine that I have to clean. I've had so much infection. The machine strikes me as a germ harborer. I just hate the whole idea of a machine. I don't even have room for anything else. Do you think that machine is really important?
Thanks.

I don't think a lot of these doctors know what they are doing, well they do, but they are brainwashed by money. They are so into it for the money that they just continue to chop at it and they continue on to look for their next prey... How sad, but true. I was 18 when I had my life ruined by a selffish doctor and it really screwed my brain up so much. How can I trust people anymore when at the time I needed the most help a doctor decides to rob me of my life. This ENS has given me a CLEAR sense of how ugly this world really is. This whole Winter all I was doing was shivering I could hardly function. My face as changed as well. :( My nose is thin, I look sickly and when it gets cold, underneath my eyes turns purplish! I just don't know what to do anymore. Any kind of coping I have learned has come from this forum and site.

A friend pointed out to me that surgeons have to "turn over a large volume" of surgeries in order to make the big bucks that it appears so many of them went into this "business" to make.
I was so naive. I was going to this doctor and absolutely assumed that any surgery he planned to do was totally about me. Now I know the surgeries were totally about him. 2 of the 3 surgeries that he did were medically unnecessary and inapproporiate--all 3 were injurious.
I am outraged that this was done to you at 18 years old. I view what was done to me as a violent assault. Shame on the surgeon who did this to a child.
