Here are some books that I have found to be of great help to me while trying to overcome my many symptoms due to ENS, allergies, stress, etc. Maybe the only good thing to come out of me having ENS is that I now have a passion for medical research. I have read alot more books, but these are the ones I feel are worthwhile. I have recommended these to others and they have found them to be helpful as well.

1. Allergies: Disease in Disguise: How to Heal Your Allergic Condition Permantely and Naturally by Carolee Bateson-Koch. This is one of my favorites on the subject of allergies and digestion. In my opinion, this is a must for anyone with severe allergies such as myself. The book will also give you some suggestions about food, the importance of enzymes, and a treatment plan to get better.

2. The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief, Second Edition by Clair Davies. I have posted earlier about this book, but one thing it is not is accupressure. It is much more scientific than that. I am working with a great chiropractor on the knots in my upper back, neck and facial regions, but honestly, I do not have to go as much because of this book. It teaches you how to do it yourself which of course save you money. I bet the majority of the people on this board have myofacial pain because of the lack of sleep and stress that this disorders causes. If you do not work out these "shortened" muscles, they will get stuck causing all sorts of unusual sensations and pain. I would recommend buying the "Theracane" to reach the trigger points that occur in the middle of you back.

3. Pain Free 1-2-3: A Proven Program for Eliminating Chronic Pain Now by Jacob Teitelbaum M.D. One of the thing that you will find is that allergies, fibromyaligia, myofacial pain, TMJ, etc. have a lot in common and many of the same treatment plans. It is my personal opinion that many of us are not only suffering from ENS, but other ailments as well. We cannot just lump everything into the ENS category because this may or maynot be the case. This book covers both allopathic and natural remedies for pain relief. It really is one of the most unbiased pieces of writing that I have come accross. If you want more information on Dr. Teitelbaum please go to vitality101.com or endfatigue.com. Either one will take you to his website.

One thing I know for sure regarding my own experiences with ENS- there is definately not one "MAGIC" bullet to help alleviate this condition. I believe it will require implants (in many cases), change of diet, in some cases counseling, finding out nutritional deficiencies, overcoming addictive and destructive behavior, etc. to become somewhat "whole" again. I usually buy my books through amazon.com because they seem to be reasonable but they also do a good job of categorizing your area of interest. Hope this helps.

Those are very good books.

Almost wonders if ENS causes fibromalgia/cfs in some people since sleep disorder if one of the causes of them.

This is a good question. I think it is highly possible. But, we all went to an ENT to begin with, so there were problems from the start. When you don't sleep properly, or deeply, your immune system stops working properly causing all sorts of medical problems. It is my belief that people with full blown ENS such as my myself and others, we will automatically have sleeping issues because of our paradoxical obstruction. In my opinion, this is by far the worst symptom of ENS. It should probably be #1 on all of our lists to figure out. If you can get some quality sleep, then we can handle the other stuff during the day.

js,

I don't think that paradoxical obstruction is the main cause for our sleep disturbance. It is much more - dryness and inflammation of the passages which increases during sleep because of the decline in physical activity which during the day keeps the dryness and inflammation in relative check. Anyway, for myself I have seem to have found a pretty good solution to sleep and now get five-six of deep sleep per night. See my post on the "acupuncture press needles" in this forum section.

Paradoxical obstruction contributes to our level of anxiety and this contributes to sleep disturbances, but once you relax and go to sleep it is the dryness and inflammtion which causes a kind of edema in the the ostiums leading to the paranasal sinuses and I believe it is this that wakes us up.

TE,

This is good to know that you have found a way to get some quality sleep back. If you can do it, then there is hope for many people on this board. I too, have found a way to get some quality sleep, which is such a blessing.

My personal belief is that all of us need to find solutions to our lack of quality sleep because of its overall effect on our health. For me, the lack of sleep was the most devasting symptom to having ENS.

The point I was trying to make is that this needs to be addressed soon. If not, a host of other ailments are lurking around the corner.
